THE CHALLENGE

Teams need to come up with a brand concept around the theme of sustainability and the future to align to this year’s Festival of Marketing theme of ‘what’s next’.

Each team will be given a sector to focus on, thinking about what sustainability in that sector means and how a new brand and product could help push that sector forward:

  •  Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) i.e. snacks, toiletries, frozen foods

  • Retail

  • Technology

  • Financial services

  1. Identify a sustainability issue that aligns to one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and determine how large the challenge is

  2. Create a consumer facing brand and product that helps to contribute to the solution of this challenge - explain how.

  3. Determine who the target audience is and why the brand/product would resonate with them.

  4. How would you price your product and where and how would you like to make it available to your potential customers?

You will be given 6 weeks to work on this task ahead of the Festival of Marketing where each group will present to a panel of senior marketing professionals.

How will the process work? What will the support be?

If you have a friend (or friends) you think would be equally excited by this opportunity and who could work with you effectively on this challenge, do encourage them to apply, and you may be able to work together.

Expect to work remotely with the team you are allocated – this is a great opportunity to get to know new people. This process will give you a flavour of the world of work, with its increasing emphasis on remote communications and working! We will provide you guidance on how to work together, and facilitate the kick-off of your collaboration.

Each team will work with a mentor from our Founding 50, who can advise and answer questions on the brief to help shape the student's responses.

SCORING CRITERIA

The panel of judges will be looking for innovative ideas that meet the requirements of the brief. We will be scoring each of the following out of five:

  •  Has the team met the brief?

  •  Understanding of objectives and target audience

  •  The rationale behind their ideas

  •  Points for creativity/innovation in response to brief?

  •  Surprise and delight/value add
